Find Your Way With Feeling

Put one foot in front of the other, following your inner North Star and a formula for success

These days you might feel as if you’re at a crossroads: not wanting to stay the same or go back to the way things were, but not really knowing what lies ahead and having some anxiety and fear about the future and what that might look like. Welcome to the human journey!

But it’s also these days when the crossroads and transitions seem to be intensifying and accelerating … so it’s more important than ever to stop and reflect on where you are now and where you are going — even if you don’t quite know where that is. You want to be in harmony with evolution and where the Universe wants to take you — because the more you resist, the more the discomfort persists.

Most humans don’t like change — and they like the unknown even less — so if you can make friends with both, you can ease any dis-ease. In other words, the more present and accepting you can be of any situation (meaning acknowledging what IS), the less suffering you will endure, the more clarity you will get, and the faster you can determine the next best steps. And then, “put one foot in front of the other.”

And if you don’t know the destination, know what the feeling is you’re looking for. Are your actions bringing you closer to or further away from that desired feeling? Use that feeling as a North Star and heed your body’s wisdom and intuition about where it is pointing you and how you should proceed, if at all.

I also recently learned about a formula for success from scholar/teacher/shaman Serge Kahili King: E = mc2 — r. He borrows from Einstein’s famous version as a way to encapsulate a Huna understanding. (Huna, Hawaiian for “secret,” refers to what Kahili King describes as “ancient wisdom of turning inner knowledge into outer success.”)

The formula means Effectiveness = motivation, concentration and confidence, minus resistance. It’s the “minus resistance” part that I think is key (I’m talking to myself here with my physical clutter issues … but this could mean emotional and mental clutter as well). Perhaps this could help you on your own journey?

I’ve never run a marathon, but I imagine it’s just as much a mental challenge as it is a physical one, if not more so. It’s a great metaphor for life, and these are the themes reflected in this essay. Whatever sojourn or project you embark upon, always remember, as the Chinese proverb says, that “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,” and be gentle, patient and compassionate with yourself along the way.

And no matter what the results were of the election, it’s important to remember all the ways in which we have POWER which we discussed in this month’s CONNECTING WITH KRISTINA online gathering on Tuesday, November 15. (Click here for some clips and join my mailing list for the next one)
